Workshop: When it's already hard: Triage for the first month of school

For when things are escalating fast, and your child needs help tomorrow

It’s not even officially fall, and the teacher’s already asking for “strategies.” Your kid’s holding it together, but you know it can’t last. And every pickup includes a “just one thing” that makes your stomach drop.

This session is about what to do when it’s already not working. You’ll get a handout with 10 things even busy teachers can try this week, and the chance for a free follow-up 1:1 with Jacqui to talk about your specific child.

We’ll discuss:

  • how to figure out what might be making it hard for your child already

  • ideas for support that’s realistic to ask for immediately

  • questions you have about getting things on track moving forward.

This is part of our Back-to-School Workshop Series. Each session tackles a challenge that tends to blow up early in the school year. You’ll leave with clear ideas, fillable tools you can share with your child’s school, and, most importantly, a plan.

What to expect:

  • Free, online, and confidential (not recorded, small groups)

  • Cameras optional, participation not required, questions welcome

  • Includes handouts you can fill in and share with your child’s school

  • Option to book a free 1:1 follow-up chat with Jacqui in the three days after each session

  • Daytime and evening options

Who’s running this?
The Huddle for Families director, Jacqui Robbins. I’ve studied child development and been a special educator for 30 years. I’ve also been the parent sitting in the meeting, panicking and feeling frustrated. I’ve written the IEPs and led the meetings. I’ve also raged in the car after listening for 45 minutes to how awful my kid is and how little people seem to be able to help. These sessions are built on what I know works (and absolutely does not) for real life kids and families, and already-overwhelmed teachers in real life schools.
