Workshop: Managing Your School Meeting: Advocacy, Follow-up, and Follow-Through (daytime)

A crash course in staying calm, making things clear, and building a plan.

Sometimes school meetings feel less like a collaboration and more like a performance review for your parenting (or a tribunal for your child). We’ll talk about effective advocacy, even in frustrating situations, and how to keep things from going off the rails. You’ll also have the chance to schedule a free 1:1 follow up with Jacqui to prep for your meeting.

This session offers practical advice for advocacy at school, including:

  • how to frame every meeting

  • ideas for making sure you’re heard and things happen

  • next steps if you’re not getting anywhere

  • answers to your questions

This is part of our Back-to-School Workshop Series. Each session tackles a challenge that tends to blow up early in the school year. You’ll leave with clear ideas, fillable tools you can share with your child’s school, and, most importantly, a plan.

What to expect:

  • Free, online, and confidential (not recorded, small groups)

  • Cameras optional, participation not required, questions welcome

  • Includes handouts you can fill in and share with your child’s school

  • Option to book a free 1:1 follow-up chat with Jacqui in the three days after each session

  • Daytime and evening options

Who’s running this?
The Huddle for Families director, Jacqui Robbins. I’ve studied child development and been a special educator for 30 years. I’ve also been the parent sitting in the meeting, panicking and feeling frustrated. I’ve written the IEPs and led the meetings. I’ve also raged in the car after listening for 45 minutes to how awful my kid is and how little people seem to be able to help. These sessions are built on what I know works (and absolutely does not) for real life kids and families, and already-overwhelmed teachers in real life schools.
