Workshop: Making IEPs, 504s, and Safety Plans that actually help (daytime)

Because “Student will use appropriate behavior” is not a helpful goal

You’re emailed a plan that’s 14 pages long and asked to approve. Half of it is vague enough to apply to a houseplant, and the other half makes your child sound like a serial killer.

But support plans and safety plans can be useful tools *if* they are specific, clear, and realistic for kids and teachers.

We’ll discuss:

  • what to figure out before the meeting to make sure it’s productive

  • how to help educators better support your child

  • ideas for support that’s realistic to implement even in busy classrooms

  • any questions you have

You’ll leave with a template you can fill and share, and the chance to sign up for a free 1:1 follow up session with Jacqui to prep for your meeting.

This is part of our Back-to-School Workshop Series. Each session tackles a challenge that tends to blow up early in the school year. You’ll leave with clear ideas, fillable tools you can share with your child’s school, and, most importantly, a plan.

What to expect:

  • Free, online, and confidential (not recorded, small groups)

  • Cameras optional, participation not required, questions welcome

  • Includes handouts you can fill in and share with your child’s school

  • Option to book a free 1:1 follow-up chat with Jacqui in the three days after each session

  • Daytime and evening options

Who’s running this?
The Huddle for Families director, Jacqui Robbins. I’ve studied child development and been a special educator for 30 years. I’ve also been the parent sitting in the meeting, panicking and feeling frustrated. I’ve written the IEPs and led the meetings. I’ve also raged in the car after listening for 45 minutes to how awful my kid is and how little people seem to be able to help. These sessions are built on what I know works (and absolutely does not) for real life kids and families, and already-overwhelmed teachers in real life schools.
